Intravenous Sedation
You may choose to have your surgery under intravenous sedation. We use a combination of medications that provide safe and comfortable outpatient care.
Please follow these guidelines if you are scheduled for intravenous sedation:
| · |
Do not eat or drink anything for eight hours prior to surgery (eat a good dinner the night before). |
| · |
Make arrangements to have a responsible adult drive you home and, ideally, stay with you for the first few hours following surgery. |
| · |
Wear comfortable clothing. A short-sleeved shirt and low-heel, rubber-sole shoes (sneakers, clogs, etc.) are recommended. |
| · |
Remove contact lenses, nail polish, excessive make-up, and jewelry prior to surgery. |
| · |
You will be instructed to consume a soft diet and lots of fluids for the first 24 hours following surgery. You may want to ensure these are available prior to surgery. Examples of soft foods are pudding, jello, ice cream, yogurt, cottage cheese, soup/broth, applesauce, mashed potatoes, oatmeal, cream of wheat, scrambled eggs, etc. |
| · |
Please allow yourself at least 2-3 days following surgery to fully recover. Do not plan major events during this period. |
| · |
If you like, you may bring your favorite music to listen to during the procedure. |
| · |
Get a good night's sleep the night before, and please arrive at our office promptly at your scheduled appointment time. |
